Archeology and History

Archaeological and historical records - impacts of eruptions.

Archeology and History - determine and quantify in a credible way, the historical evidence associated with the selected eruptions. Bibliographic data from historical records will be analysed to understand the cultural impact of volcanic activity in the region.

This type of study is important because what happened in past eruptive events is in many cases the only evidence of what may happen in the future. Not all active volcanoes have erupted in recent times, for which there is instrumental or even photographic documentation that makes it possible to foresee what may happen in the future.

The interpretation of the effects of historical eruptions contributes to a broader and deeper knowledge of volcanic phenomena and enables us to reconsider the level of risk due to the combination of seismicity, eruptions and their effects.
